Cinema Hilarité: Film and Theatre Genres for The Improv Stage

What do you do when *that* audience member pipes up and shouts "French New Wave","Restoration Comedy" or "Bunraku" as a short-form suggestion? Even if you get the oft-requested "Shakespeare", "Film Noir" or "Kabuki", how comfortable are you in jumping right in without missing a beat? This workshop is a crash course developed by a recovering Theatre Major to guide you through the major elements of a multitude of genres from stage and screen from the most requested to the more obscure. Participants will do genre-related exercises and practice performing several short-form games that involve various genres as inputs as well as receive coaching on elements of style and signature. The goal of this class is to get over any fear of inaccuracy and to replace it with the confidence to fully embrace and define genre and style in order to create inspiring and unforgettable scenes. Never seem stumped again no matter what the audience throws your way by increasing your knowledge and learning how to compensate for the gaps in your genre savvy with commitment, teamwork and powerful initial offers. Learn how to create a sense of time and place and set the scene for your best performance yet.
